Into The Cold for Earth Day

Two years ago, filmmaker and environmental advocate Sebastian Copeland embarked on an expedition to the North Pole to commemorate the centennial of Admiral Peary’s 1909 polar expedition.

The resulting film, “Into The Cold: A Journey of the Soul,” is being released on DVD just in time for Earth Day on April 22nd. The film follows Copeland and his partner Keith Heger on their 400-mile, two-month expedition through temperatures of negative 50 degrees Fahrenheit (negative 45 Celsius).

This week on National Geographic Weekend, Boyd Matson speaks with Copeland about his Arctic trek. Listen to Copeland describe how he survived an unintentional fall through the ice, into the cold Arctic Ocean.
