Nat Geo WILD: Rehearsal Pictures

Are you watching?! The challenges that a show like this faces are huge and numerous, and the production team has been working tirelessly for three months, against all odds, to pull it off. Here are some pictures from the final moments leading up to the live event, including technical rehearsals, when the crew tests the microwave feed from the boat to the control room, plus a little bit of much-needed, behind-the-scenes napping.

I can’t believe the cruel comments here. I wonder if these are the same people who criticise Discovery Channel’s ridiculous representations of sharks. Just goes to show some viewers will only absorb a certain type of content. What blinkers.

National Geographic has always set a high standard for media. It does not compromise the quality of its programming, even in unfortunate circumstances like what happened during Shark Attack LIVE. It is reassuring to know there is a media outlet that is utilizing LIVE television for educational purposes, unlike so much of the pointless crap we are bombarded with every day. I am looking forward to seeing more come from this new chapter in National Geographic. Hopefully, it will usher in an era of substantive reality television.

I cant believe the terrible, harsh comments I am reading – this Nat Geo Group tried very hard – but hey THEY are not able to control the weather – you should be ashamed of yourselves for your comments – I know how hard they worked – I would like to have seen YOU do it better – no man !

Truly disappointing show. Not professional at all. Who does your editing?? That really was pitiful editing. Obviously professional researchers were not interested in doing your show – the group on the boat tried to sensationalize everything rather than report any objective, scientific data. And the host was such a dork someone should have thrown him overboard! Honestly, Nat Geo, I expect a little more professionalism from you.

Nobody was more disappointed than us that we weren’t able to go live during the show as much as had been planned. As host Mark Thompson said when the broadcast started, and later in the show, the currents were just too strong and the risk to the divers too great for them to go in the water. We had been battling bad weather all week during rehearsals, and though it cleared up just before the show, the strong currents were still a serious hazard.

We have been preparing for this LIVE broadcast for the past three months, but with complicated live television productions, thing don’t always go as planned. Still, we were dedicated to presenting the results of three months of demonstrations testing common shark myths and preconceptions and moved forward with the broadcast as planned, substituting some live elements for pre-taped pieces.

Good or bad, we appreciate you posting here with your feelings about the show.

    Best,

    Matt Z.

I never comment on TV shows but as soon as Shark Attack Live ended I felt it was a obligation to post a comment. This was the absolute worst show about sharks I have ever seen. The build up was all about swimming “Live” with sharks yet the only thing live thorughout the show that I could tell was the guy commenting on previously recorded footage. At the very end there was a feeble attempt to put a few people in the water live and one person went in for about 5 minutes and was pulled out due to current. When the second person went in they cut to a commercial and then when the show resumed there was no audio and she was being pulled back to the boat. Then to top off this total waste of time they ended with someone playing guitar under the water singing about great whites eating people when they get pissed. WASTE OF TIME< TOTALLY DUMB!!!!!!!
