In 2012, The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group continued to make impressive gains in combating the impacts of global climate change. The C40’s milestone event for the year came in June when C40 mayors from around the world gathered in Rio de Janeiro for Rio+C40 to announce aggressive emissions reductions gains and goals for the future, with C40 Cities Chair and Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg:
“Even as progress at the national and international levels has faltered, it’s fair to say the world’s cities have forged ahead. Megacities are indeed taking action on climate change, action that is also improving the public health, enhancing the quality of life, and increasing economic opportunity for the people that we serve.”
