Going Live with “Looking for Life”

Last week, I was in Washington DC for the Pre-Departure Orientation of the next round of Fulbright-National Geographic Fellows. During my visit, I gave a presentation about my time in Botswana and the progress on LOOKING FOR LIFE, my short documentary.

In addition to speaking and showing images from my fellowship, I screened a two-minute teaser, the first public appearance of footage from the film. Today, I’m releasing that teaser online to celebrate our new Facebook page. Please like the page and share it with others!

LOOKING FOR LIFE is an intimate coming-of-age portrait of two young San men charting a course between tradition and modernity in the wake of relocation from their ancestral homeland in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

We have two more months of production, will continue postproduction through the fall, and hope to run the film festival circuit in the spring and fall of 2016. Facebook is the best place to receive updates about the film, including future screenings, so please follow us there.

    Hi Daniel,

Great teaser, and I am excited to see the film. I just finished a documentary film program at the New York Film Academy and would like to hear how you got started making documentaries and any advice you could give. Also, where can I watch the Tobacco King? Looks like a great film and very much in line with my interests. Thanks and good luck!

    Hi Daniel,

Just wanted to say this is an incredible undertaking. Quite the project and I look forward to the final result.

On a separate note, I’m planning on applying for the same fellowship and I want to study in a very similar region in East Africa inhabited largely by pastoralists, but for very different reasons.

Nonetheless I was wondering if we could possibly connect and I could learn more about how you secured affiliation in the region and how you went about the process of preparing for your trip, establishing relationships with locals, found a translator/editor, and the general process of producing your film!

Thanks for the encouragement, Adam! I’d be happy to discuss my process with you.
