Vice President Biden calls on more U.S. cities to commit to the Compact of Mayors

While speaking at the National League of Cities Congress, Vice President Biden announced that 83 U.S. cities have committed to the Compact of Mayors – leaving just 17 cities to go to fulfill the White House challenge for 100 U.S. cities to commit to the Compact before the start of the COP21.

With less than 25 days until COP21, U.S. cities are well on their way to strengthening the national commitment to act on climate change. Momentum is gaining; when President Obama issued the challenge in late August, only 34 U.S. cities had joined the Compact of Mayors and as of last month only 46 American cities had committed.

At the event, Vice President Biden recognized the mayors in attendance who have signed the Compact – representing a wide range of cities from Boulder to Minneapolis to Memphis.
